British Columbia’s Provincial Nominee Program: Updates, Eligibility & Procedure

As of July 2026, British Columbia has successfully hosted up to 16 selection draws, including the most recent round held on July 16, 2026, which turned out to be their biggest yet. 

The Canadian province uses this program as an initiative to nominate skilled workers, entrepreneurs, and graduates for Permanent Residency in the province. It has its own criteria and regulations upon which the program operates. Here’s all you need to know regarding British Columbia’s Provincial Nominee Program (B.C. P.N.P.) and exactly how it affects you.

Introduction to British Columbia’s PNP

As you might be aware, Canada’s Express Entry System is highly competitive and targets the overall economic requirements of the nation. Prior to the 1990s era, only the federal government was responsible for such immigration programs. Provincial programs were introduced to prioritize regional and local development. How does BC PNP work?

British Columbia’s Provincial Nominee Program distributes this quota by hosting monthly, weekly, and bi-weekly draws. British Columbia’s Provincial Nominee Program operates on a point-based (200 max.) evaluation system known as the Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS). Candidates must register themselves through the SIRS, only then is their profile and their ability to contribute to the economy evaluated. The SIRS evaluates your profile on the basis of work experience, employment status, education, regional area of employment, language proficiency, Offer Letter, hourly wage standards, and your ability to contribute to the provincial economy.

For individuals wishing to immigrate to BC, there are three options to choose from:

1. Skills Immigration Stream
2. Express Entry British Columbia Stream
3. Entrepreneur Immigration Stream

Skills Immigration Stream

The Skills Immigration system acts as a pathway for candidates to receive nomination from the province and therefore acquire an invitation to apply in the subsequent draw. 

In order to apply for the Skills Immigration stream, candidates shall be eligible under one of the following main categories:

Skilled Worker Category

This category is for individuals in possession of several years of experience in skilled occupations. They must have a full-time job and an offer letter for the same. To be eligible, they must possess at least two years of skilled work experience. 

Healthcare Professional

This category includes all of the experienced healthcare professionals working as nurses, physicians, or allied health experts. A minimum of two years of working experience and an eligible offer letter as an employment proof within the province is a must. 

International Graduate Category

This category includes recent graduates (within the last three years) from an eligible institute in Canada. A degree/diploma from a reputed post-secondary institute in Canada alongside a job offer is a requirement. 

International Post-Graduate Category

This category includes individuals who have completed a Master’s or a PhD from an eligible B.C. Institute in natural or allied health streams. Note: No Job Offer is required for this category.

Entry Level & Semi-Skilled workers

Entry-level and semi-skilled workers working in tourism, hospitality, food processing, or long-haul trucking positions may be deemed eligible. Workers working or residing in the Northeast Development Region of British Columbia may also be deemed eligible. 

Base Requirements:

• Must have a permanent, full-time job offer from at least a TEER 4 or TEER 5 job. [Sole exception: International Post-Graduates]
• The salary offered has to be on par with the provincial wage rates. [Sole exception: International Post-Graduates]
• Must be equipped and able to support their family plus themselves, financially. [Sole exception: International Post-Graduates]
• Minimum proficiency levels are to be met.
• Employers of the said candidate must also be eligible within these terms. [Sole exception: International Post-Graduates]
• Must also meet any specific terms in respect to their specific category.

Procedure: How the process advances

Note: Candidates from the International Post-Graduate Category & Healthcare professional category don’t need to register with SIRS; they can apply directly from the BC PNP portal online.

Application Fee: $1,150 is the processing fee. A review request costs an additional CAD $500.

Express Entry British Columbia

Express Entry British Columbia stream demands an alignment with the federal government’s Express Entry Immigration System. This allows the applicant an advantage on both of their applications being prioritized (If nominated, the PNP application may also be prioritized).

In order to apply for the Express Entry British Columbia stream, candidates shall be eligible under one of the following main categories:

1. Skilled Worker Category
2. Health Care Professional Category
3. International Graduate Category
4. International Post-Graduate Category

Note: Meaning and eligibility for said categories are the same as the Skills Immigration system mentioned above; please read carefully.

Base Requirements:

• A legitimate profile with the federal government’s Express Entry system is a requirement.
• Candidates must also have a Job Seeker Validation Code from the Express Entry system.
• Must have a permanent, full-time job offer from at least a TEER 4 or TEER 5 job. [Sole exception: International Post-Graduates]
• The salary offered has to be on par with the provincial wage rates. [Sole exception: International Post-Graduates]
• Must be equipped and able to afford and support their family and themselves financially. [Sole exception: International Post-Graduates]

Entrepreneur Immigration System

If you wish to immigrate to British Columbia as an entrepreneur, there are three options:

1. Entrepreneur Immigration: Base category
2. Entrepreneur Immigration: Regional Pilot Category
3. Strategic Projects Category

1. Entrepreneur Immigration: Base Category

This category comprises senior managers and business managers who may be interested in investing funds and buying shares in existing British Columbian businesses.

Requirements for Entrepreneur Immigration: Base Category

• The entrepreneur must have a total net worth of at least $600,000 CAD (individually), which should be legally verified.
• Entrepreneurs must also be able to provide a solid track record in running a business or management experience. 
• Entrepreneurs must also meet language proficiency requirements in English or French (minimum CLB level 4).
• Establishing a new business or purchasing and working on an existing business in BC is a requirement.
• The entrepreneur has to make a personal investment of at least CAD $200,000 in any business residing in BC.
• Entrepreneurs should be able to generate employment for the residents and Canadian citizens.

2. Entrepreneur Immigration: Regional Pilot

Regional Pilot category deals with international entrepreneurs looking to establish their business in British Columbia. 

Requirements for Entrepreneur Immigration: Regional Pilot

• The entrepreneur must have a total net worth of at least $300,000 CAD (individually), and it should be legally verified.
• Entrepreneurs must have any of these: Three years of experience as a business owner or manager (individually), provide 4 years of experience as a senior manager, or a combination of one year of experience as an owner/manager and two years of experience as a senior manager.
• Entrepreneurs must also meet language proficiency requirements in English or French (minimum CLB level 4).
• Entrepreneurs must meet eligible education requirements.
• Businesses must also meet business-specific requirements.

3. Strategic Projects Category

Strategic Projects Category allows foreign-owned businesses to come and set up operations in British Columbia. This category offers nominations for permanent residency in the province; up to five key professional, managerial, and tech staff members can receive it.

Requirements for Strategic Projects Category

• Company has to be well established and prove financial stability.
• Company must showcase adequate investment capacity, that it is capable of actually expanding in British Columbia.
• Company must be able to provide a significant reason about how the economy can benefit from its inclusion.

Entrepreneur Immigration Fees:

• Registration fee: $300
• Application fee: $3,500
• Request for a review: $500

Strategic Projects Fees:

• Registration fee: $300
• Application fee: $3,500
• Key Staff fee per head: $1,000 each

Duration:

• Notification regarding the registration score can take up to 6 weeks from the date of registration.
• Notification regarding the application decision can take up to 4 months from the date of application.
